About Ahimsa Karma Yoga

Come and be apart of a full immersion experience to open your mind, body, and heart while visiting the beautiful multicultural heritage city of Cochin, Kerala (also known as "Gods own Country").

Ahimsa Karma Yoga is a social enterprise and volunteering vacation in India helping out animal welfare projects while practicing yoga and meditation. As part of our Karma Yoga Program, a significant amount of your day will include direct engagement with the project.

Our projects are non-government organizations and rely heavily on donations and funding from the public and local businesses. Choosing to volunteer with animals you are helping shape a bright future for the animals and the shelter with part of the proceeds from the program going back to the organization.

Ahimsa

What does Ahimsa mean?

The word Ahimsa directly translated from Sanskrit to English means Non-violence or non-harming towards oneself and towards others. When we practice yoga Ahimsa has a deeper rooted meaning. Ahimsa is the total and complete absence of violence from one's mind, body and spirit replacing harmful thoughts, speech and actions with that of love and kindness towards yourself, others, animals and the environment.

Karma

What is Karma Yoga?

Karma yoga is the path of action, putting in 100% effort without being attached to the outcome. When we practice Karma Yoga, our actions are performed selflessly, coming from a place of love and finding fulfillment in pure giving without thought of self-gain or recognition. Karma Yoga will not only deepen your yoga practice but it is also a means to help you grow along with your spiritual path and develop new skills in life.

“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves”

Why Volunteer Abroad?

Choosing a service orientated vacation in India through our non-profit organizations can really help you experience the destination in the now and takes you out of the realm of just being a tourist, experiencing the culture on a whole new level!

When we volunteer, we may see real changes as a result of our efforts, we may witness the effects that our own efforts have on others in the community and through volunteer work we are helping others by giving our time and resources.

Whatever reasons you choose to volunteer abroad the benefits are endless so here are a few reasons to inspire you even more:

 VOLUNTEERING IS FUN!
It is amazing to think that one person’s efforts can change the life of someone else somewhere in the world. However, the best part, and often overlooked is that volunteering is just plain fun.

CREATE BONDS AND MAKE FRIENDS
Through volunteering you will connect with other like-minded people, forming new friendships from around the world, strengthen your community and your social network and make everlasting connections with the people you are helping.

IMPROVES SELF-ESTEEM
Volunteering helps develop self-esteem, confidence, and feelings of self-worth. Consider the advantages of volunteering for teens and young adults with eating disorders, social anxiety, and depression.

IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH AND HAPPINESS
Helping others makes us happier. Did you know that those feelings of happiness can prevent and relieve some of our most painful struggles? Studies show that improved mental health is just another of the many benefits of volunteering.
